Services

Copyediting

I can edit your text in line with your editorial requirements or create a new style sheet from scratch. This is a service that ensures your manuscript is properly prepared for typesetting as I address a range of areas, from correcting errors to adopting an appropriate and consistent editorial style, such as how to present thoughts in your writing

Proofreading

Proofreading is more than checking spelling, punctuation and grammar. That's not to say they're not important – of course they are! However, I can identify other issues that may have escaped your attention. From ensuring the consistency of the typography to checking references, this is a final check of your document after typesetting, an essential quality assurance step before it reaches your readers.

Promotion

Blurb: Get your novel noticed with a crucial short description which crystallises the conflict in your story. In non-fiction, I'll capture your unique approach to a topic in copy that will appeal to an identified market.

Press release: Allow me to find a saleable angle to your book as part of writing an attention-grabbing release to be showcased before local press and news organisations.

Thoughts and point of view in fiction: a guide for authors

It can be a thorny issue that many fiction authors, including me, have come up against at some time or another: how the thoughts of characters appear in your text. Should they always be included with speech tags (‘he/she thought’)? And what about italics – when do they apply? Read about the basics of displaying thoughts and how this ties in with PoV in storytelling in this free-to-download guide designed to help you make the right editorial decisions for your manuscript.
